Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 3, 2026

Local Trades ("we," "us," or "our") is a sole proprietorship operated by Dominique Legault, based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what information we collect through local-trades.ca and local-trades.us (the "Sites"), how we use it, and your choices. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Information we collect

  • Information you give us. When you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and the message you send. We use this to respond to your inquiry and to follow up about our services.
  • Information collected automatically. When you visit the Sites, our hosting and analytics providers receive standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and the time of your visit. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the Sites.
  • Spam protection. We use Cloudflare Turnstile on our forms to tell human visitors from automated bots. Turnstile processes limited technical signals, such as your IP address and a challenge token, for this purpose.

How we use your information

  • To respond to and follow up on inquiries you send us.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the Sites.
  • To measure how our content and advertising perform.
  • To meet legal and record-keeping obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers. We share information only with providers that help us operate the Sites, under agreements that limit their use of it: Cloudflare (hosting, content delivery, and Turnstile bot protection), Resend (delivery of contact-form submissions to us by email), Twilio (text-message notification to us when you submit the form), Google (Analytics, and advertising and conversion measurement). Some of these providers process data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. Where that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

Cookies and analytics. The Sites use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and, where applicable, advertising measurement. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser opt-out add-on.

The trades directory. We publish a directory of trades businesses using information from public sources such as public registries and business websites. This is business information, not consumer personal information. If you own a listed business and want to correct or remove your listing, contact us using the details below.

How long we keep information. We keep contact-form submissions for as long as needed to respond and to maintain our business records, then delete them. Analytics data is retained according to our providers' standard retention settings.

Your choices and rights. Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA you may ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You may also withdraw your consent to future contact at any time. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

Children. The Sites are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy. We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new effective date.
